Sugar alcohol about 60% as sweet as sugar, sold mainly as a 70% solution and also as powder. Used as a sweetener and humectant in toothpaste, pharma syrups, confectionery, bakery and cosmetics. FSSAI lists it as a caloric sweetener and humectant at GMP in Appendix A; foods with high polyol content need the laxative effect statement.
