Food formulation and product development in India

Turns your idea into a recipe and spec, with samples and a shelf-life plan.

Formulation partners turn an idea into a recipe and a specification a manufacturer can run: ingredients and proportions, the process, samples to taste, and a plan to check shelf life. You need one when your product is new, or when you want a recipe that meets a claim such as gluten-free or high protein.

What to check before you choose

  • Experience with your category

Ask for products they have developed in your category, such as baked snacks, beverages or creams, and how many rounds of samples are included.

  • A specification you can take anywhere

The output should be a written specification and process that any licensed manufacturer can follow, not only their own plant.

  • Claims and labelling

If you plan a claim on the pack, ask how the recipe will meet it and which lab tests will prove it.

  • Ownership of the recipe

Agree in writing that the final formulation belongs to you once paid for.

  • Scale-up support

A recipe that works in a kitchen can change on a production line. Ask whether they support the first trial run at the manufacturer.

Common questions

What does a food formulation partner deliver?

Usually a recipe with ingredient specifications, a process, samples for you to taste, and a plan for shelf-life checks. Some also prepare the nutrition and label information.

Should I formulate before choosing a manufacturer?

Often yes: a clear specification makes manufacturers’ quotes comparable. Some contract manufacturers also offer formulation in-house.
