Oil-soluble beta hydroxy acid used in acne face washes, toners, spot gels and anti-dandruff shampoos for pore clearing and exfoliation. Typical use is 0.5 to 2%, dissolved in glycols or alcohol. EU limits it to 2% in most products and 3% in rinse-off hair products (0.5% when used as a preservative), and not for children under 3 except shampoos.
