Non hygroscopic sugar alcohol about half as sweet as sugar with a cooling taste. Used as a tablet diluent and in chewable and mouth dissolving tablets, as a dusting agent for chewing gum and in sugar free confectionery. FSSAI lists it as a caloric sweetener in Appendix A; foods with high polyol content need the laxative effect statement.
