Fungal fermentation product used in brightening creams, serums and soaps to reduce the look of dark spots; the dipalmitate ester is the oil-soluble, more stable form for creams. Kojic acid is used at 0.5 to 1% and the dipalmitate at 1 to 3%. EU limits kojic acid to 1% in face and hand products (Regulation 2024/996).
