Water soluble synthetic triarylmethane dye giving a bluish green, used in mint and pista flavoured sweets, jellies, ice cream and beverages, and in green and black blends. It is the only synthetic green on the FSSAI permitted list; use stays within Appendix A category limits, typically 100 mg/kg of final food singly or in combination. Its shade shifts with pH and it absorbs moisture.
