Fatty alcohols from palm or coconut used as co-emulsifiers, thickeners and emollients in creams, lotions and hair conditioners. Cetearyl (cetostearyl) alcohol is a C16/C18 blend, commonly 30:70 or 50:50; pure cetyl and stearyl alcohol are also sold. Typical use is 1 to 5% in lotions and up to 8% in thick conditioners.
