Water soluble synthetic azo dye, also called azorubine, giving a deep raspberry to maroon red. Used in sweets, sherbets, jellies, confectionery and bakery fillings, and as a base in red and brown blends. FSSAI permits it in the Appendix A food categories, typically up to 100 mg/kg of final food singly or in combination.
