Aspartame (INS 951)

Dipeptide methyl ester sweetener about 200 times sweeter than sugar, best for cold or briefly heated foods as it breaks down with long heating. Used in soft drinks, flavoured milk, chewing gum, table top tablets and dry mixes. FSSAI permits it with food-wise limits in Appendix A; labels must carry the phenylketonurics warning and the artificial sweetener declaration.
